Reasons to foster: Hear from our foster carers Ashleigh & Eden

We asked two of our amazing foster carers three questions:

  1. Why did you become a foster carer?
  2. What do you love most about being a foster carer?
  3. How has fostering a greyhound changed your life?

  1. We became foster carers after my cousin, who adopted the beautiful Ally (formerly Glitzy) from Greyt Greys, sent us a photo of a foster carers needed post. We had recently bought our house with a big yard and lots of space for snoots. We had our first foster Zuri in July of 2021 and haven't looked back since.

  2. My favourite part about fostering is getting to see the excitement of their new families on adoption day. It far outweighs the sadness of them leaving us! We also love seeing the updates of them living their best lives.

Plus a bonus is when you have to say good bye to one pup, there's always another ready to fill the space on your couch.

  3. When we decided to start fostering we had no idea of the impact it would make on our lives. We have learnt so much about these amazing dogs and love seeing them thrive. Its the best full time job ever.

  1. We were stuck in Germany during Covid and I fell ill to clinical depression about 3 years ago. I found it impossible to get out of bed or take a shower, my psychiatrist recommended spending time with dogs as they were always my world. So me and my partner fosterd a sweet street dog from Turkey, and honestly - he fosterd me, he never judged me for not taking a shower, he always woke me up in the morning to take him on our walk so I got out of bed, he snuggled me when I cried and asked me to teach him the ropes of living inside. When it was time for him to be adopted I helped the organisation with finding him the best home for him. Ever since then I've been fostering and have fosterd 15 dogs.

  2. The best part about fostering is seeing these timid little creatures blossom and reach their full potential, one hurdle at a time- from learning to wee outside, to playing with toys, learning how to chase a ball, trusting humans for the first time.It is such an invaluable transformation, which you have a part in- it's such a rewarding feeling. When they find the perfect home, knowing they are happy and will always be taken care of and loved for the rest of their life. There is nothing like it.

  3. Fostering Miss Ava changed my life forever, I will always carry her in my heart, she has been the most timid dog I have ever fosterd, she was scared to even walk in the house, scared of the floor, her bed, every little noise. I remember on her first day she laid down near the door and I laid down beside her for hours until she felt comfortable to walk further into our house. Seeing Ava now, she’s a completely different dog. She is a human loving, dog loving, a curious cuddle puddle! She snuggles in bed with us, does zoomies, runs around like a crazy lady and is so confident. Seeing her grow is unlike any other of my fosters. I love her so much, she is my everything.
